ingredients
|
| 2cups |
(500 mL)
flour |
| 4tsp |
(20 mL)
baking powder |
| 1tbsp |
(15 mL)
sugar |
| ½ tsp |
(2 mL)
dry mustard powder |
| ½tsp |
(2 mL)
salt |
| 1¼ cups |
(300 mL)
shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, Swiss, actually anything except processed cheese) |
| 1 | egg |
| 1cup |
(250 mL)
milk |
| 2tbsp |
(30 mL)
vegetable oil |
directions
| 1. | In a large bowl, have your enthusiastic young assistant stir together the flour, baking powder, sugar, mustard powder, salt and cheese until thoroughly combined. |
| 2. | In a smaller bowl, beat the egg with the milk and the vegetable oil. All at once, pour the egg mixture into the flour mixture and stir just until all the ingredients are moistened. The batter will be lumpy - but that's ok. |
| 3. | Spoon batter into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350°F (180°C) for 45 to 50 minutes - or until the top is beginning to brown lightly. Allow bread to cool for about 10 minutes before attempting to remove from the pan. |
